In the France of the 80s and 90s, two men invented a new technique for seizing power: communication. Gérard Colé and jacques Pilhan lifted politics out of the dust of propaganda. They were François Mitterrand's shadow men. Jacques Pilhan did the same with Jacques Chirac, introducing his daughter, Claude Chirac, to his trade secrets. Far from the clichés about image in politics, the story of these "spin doctors", as the Americans call these marketing strategists, provides new keys to understanding the forthcoming presidential elections. It's a story that proves that while the polls may condemn a candidate, communication can make him triumph. Between tactics to destroy opponents and anticipating voters' expectations, this film paints a portrait of expert manipulators, players and directors of modern power. "Devenir Président" reveals the media behind the scenes of twenty years of power in France.
