PART three: who wants to be a billionaire?
Ronald Reagan and the conservatives deregulated the economy and cut taxes, while Silicon Valley became the new El Dorado for young companies like Apple and Microsoft. Then the advent of the internet accelerated the concentration of capital around new giants - Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon and Microsoft: the GAFAMs.
With their mastery of the law, millionaires and multinationals became tax exempt. While the poor and the middle class were used as tax cash cows, the media-friendly figure of the visionary genius of Silicon Valley protected the American elite, who grew rich discreetly and without limit.
